College Bridge/Prep Exemptions:
Texas College Bridge: Students who have participated in a statewide Texas College Bridge program can send their completion certificates to UTSA through their Greenlight portal.
College Prep Course: Students who have completed a college prep course through a San Antonio area high school may submit their completion certificates to tsi@utsa.edu.

Additional Exemption information:

TSI requirements and developmental courses won’t apply to you in any of these cases:

  • You hold an associates or higher degree.
  • You are serving in the military or have been honorably discharged, retired, or released on or after August 1, 1990. This includes service in the Texas National Guard and Reserves.
  • You are non-degree seeking and earned fewer than 15 credit hours at all institutions. You still must meet the skill prerequisites for any courses you want to take, so testing may be required.

60-hour rule: A student who has not fulfilled all the requirements of the TSI and has not been declared TSI Complete may not enroll in upper division classes (3000 level or higher) at UTSA in a semester if the completion of the enrollment for that semester will result in a total of 60 or more earned + enrolled semester credit hours for the student. For the sixty-hour rule, the number of earned + enrolled semester credit hours include transfer credit, dual credit, and credit earned by examination, but excludes hours earned by taking developmental courses.
