Tucker Johnson
Tucker Johnson has been appointed Associate Director of Community Engagement and Partnerships and Professor of Practice for the Hospitality and Events Management track within Multidisciplinary Studies, effective June 1.
In this role, he will lead curriculum development, expand industry partnerships, support student recruitment, and identify new internships and career pathways for students in the MDST-Hospitality and Events Management degree program. He will also spearhead efforts to develop a standalone bachelor’s degree in hospitality and events management.
Johnson joined UT San Antonio in January 2025 as an adjunct faculty member for the MDST-HEM program.
He brings more than two decades of experience in the hospitality industry and over 10 years of teaching in higher education. Most recently, Johnson served on the faculty of the internationally recognized Conrad N. Hilton College of Global Hospitality Leadership at the University of Houston, where he earned numerous awards for his excellence in teaching, service and mentorship. Over the course of his academic career, he has taught more than 15 hospitality-related courses in both online and in-person formats.
Prior to transitioning to academia, Johnson built extensive experience in direct hotel sales across independent, branded, luxury, extended-stay, conference center and airport properties. As corporate director of sales and marketing for a seven-hotel portfolio, he held full topline responsibility, overseeing marketing plans, comprehensive budgets and overall revenue management strategy. Earlier in his career, he served in a range of positions in hotel sales as well as food and beverage operations and management.
Johnson has a bachelor's degree in Hotel Administration from Cornell University and a master's degree in Hotel Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He also has earned numerous industry certifications, including Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive (CHAE), Certified Hospitality Sales Professional (CHSP), Certified Hospitality Revenue Manager (CHRM), Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE), Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA), and Certified Dining Room Attendant (DRA).
