Associate Professor of Instruction, Academic Introduction & Strategies
I was born in Bellingham, Washington, not far from the Canadian border. I grew up in Olympia, Washington, and attended Pomona College before graduating with a B.S. in Chemistry from Wheaton College, in Illinois. I considered attending medical school or a few other graduate options, before realizing I really wanted to teach. I went back home to the always green and rainy Pacific Northwest, and did a Ph.D. in physical chemistry at the University of Washington, in Seattle.
After finishing my doctoral studies, I worked in educational publishing as a curriculum writer and editor before moving to St. Louis, Missouri, and teaching at Washington University in St. Louis. I also taught at the secondary level for several years before we moved to the warm and friendly city of San Antonio, where I live with my husband, children, and beloved rescue dog. I love to hike, swim, and spend time with family and friends.
I have taught AIS at UTSA since 2019, and I truly believe UTSA students are a wonderful group of students to teach. It is an honor to be a UTSA faculty member, an advisor to several student groups, and a part of the UTSA community.
