Assistant Professor of Practice, Academic Introduction & Strategies
Naomi Rubal began teaching Academic Introduction & Strategies (AIS) in 2017 after graduating with her Master of Science in Environmental Science. She primarily teaches within the Life and Health Sciences AIS pathway. Before receiving her master’s degree, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Multidisciplinary Sciences in 2004 with a teaching certificate and worked as a public K-12 teacher for 9 years before returning back to graduate school at UTSA. In 2019 she was accepted into the Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching Ph.D. program at UTSA and is currently a doctoral candidate.
In 2023 she was nominated by UTSA University College for the UTSA University Excellence Core Curriculum Teaching Award. Naomi incorporates the AIS core curriculum through engaging active student-centered learning activities. Naomi’s research interest includes first-year experience courses and service-learning.
Naomi is the Faculty Advisor for the Rowdy Women’s Fitness student organization that provides group workout sessions with an encouraging and welcoming environment.
She enjoys outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, boating, and kayaking.
