Bio
Dr. Michael Newell is the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies and Professor of Instruction in Multidisciplinary Studies and Academic Introduction and Strategies (AIS) at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UT San Antonio)
He joined the AIS program at UTSA in Fall 2019 after completing his Ph.D. in Political Science at Syracuse University. Prior to coming to UTSA, he taught courses in the areas of international security and security politics. Here at UTSA, he teaches social sciences, honors, and exploratory courses for AIS, as well as courses for the Graduate Certificate in National Security Studies.
In addition to teaching classes for AIS, he is also the Graduate Advisor of Record for University College. He has published articles on security politics and international relations, including in Security Dialogue, the European Journal of International Relations, Studies in Conflict and Terrorism, Global Constitutionalism, and Millennium – Journal of International Studies.
