Bio

I am an assistant professor within the AIS program focused on exploratory and education pathways. I received my bachelor’s degree from my hometown school Wichita State University before touring with various musical groups focused on trumpet and an 8-piece drum kit. After moving to San Antonio, I pursued a master’s degree from UTSA in curriculum and instruction, graduating in the Spring of 2019, and began a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching. My particular areas of expertise are in student motivation and engagement, alongside educational strategies to increase student engagement. I have been published in journals such as Theory and Research in Social Education and have presented at conferences like the American Educational Research Association.

I enjoy teaching here at UTSA because the university truly cares for each student and strives to help everyone succeed. Particularly, I enjoy teaching in AIS as I get to meet and interact with students from all walks of life and on all career trajectories, which keeps me more connected to the student population. Outside of teaching, I enjoy watching movies and playing games, the scarier the better! I also enjoy playing music still, though I have not traveled for it in nearly a decade.
