The Situation

We live in a world of constant change, diverse perspectives, information abundance, digital interconnectedness, human disconnectedness, multidimensional problems, and…the list goes on. To summarize, we live an increasingly complex world.

The Solution

To live well—that is, to flourish—in such a world requires continual learning, critical thinking, life purpose, communication skills and open discourse, human connection and community, character and virtue, and interdisciplinary solutions.

Our Programs

University College comprises programs designed to equip people with these very skills—the skills they need to flourish in the world:

Dual Credit Program

It starts with our Dual Credit program, where high school students earn college credits. This program allows UTSA to build community partnerships with local high schools, students, and their families.  It also allows us to help accelerate the learning curve of these students and set them up for continual, lifelong learning.

Academic Introduction & Strategies (AIS)

Once enrolled at UTSA, students participate in AIS, one of the most fundamental courses of their education. With a focus on learning how to learn and succeed in college…and life, AIS explores critical thinking, study skills, basic life skills, how to find purpose in your life, building human connections, and so much more.

The Writing Program

Dovetailing with AIS is the Writing Program, where students learn how to communicate well—to translate their thoughts, ideas, and research in a way that is received and understood by others—through written, oral, quantitative, and visual methods. These critically needed skillsets form the foundation of our interactions in the world

Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC)

Our Army and Air Force ROTC programs mold students into leaders of character who defend the United States and the freedoms that we all enjoy. As future officers, they’ll go on to excel and expertly lead teams and organizations in places around the world.

Multidisciplinary Studies (MDST)

The MDST programs not only allow UTSA to incubate new programs, like Artificial Intelligence, Hospitality and Event Management, Game Design, and others, but also orchestrate degree programs that provide interdisciplinary solutions to complex problems. That is, degree programs with classes and disciplines that span multiple colleges at UTSA.

Athletics are often referred to as the front porch of a university. Using a similar metaphor, UC is the kitchen of the university—a gathering place for the family. A place where people come together, important conversations and connection happen, learning occurs, and life skills are passed on. A place where we try recipes for new programs, bake them and test them out. A place students come to be nourished, so they can flourish in life.

In this regard, we are the University’s college, because we serve all students at UTSA. As we look to the future, we are excited about the possibilities ahead. We invite you to step into our kitchen and pull up a chair, or even throw on an apron. Join us!
